Why I Built Roof Pitch Calculator
This website started with a problem I kept running into in my own work as a civil engineer: getting a quick roofing calculation should have been simple, but finding a clear and useful online tool often wasn't.
After years of working with drawings, dimensions and site measurements, I decided to start building the kind of calculators I wanted to use myself — simple inputs, useful visual explanations and quick answers without unnecessary complexity.
From a Small Workday Frustration to a Free Online Tool
I did not start this project because I wanted to build another calculator website. I started it because I repeatedly needed faster, clearer ways to work through everyday measurements.
The problem kept coming up
During my civil engineering work, I often needed to check roof pitches, slopes, angles and related measurements. I could calculate them myself, but finding one straightforward tool that gave me the result in the format I needed was often harder than it should have been.
I decided to build what I wanted to use
After around ten years in civil engineering, I had enough practical experience to know what information matters and where users can easily get confused. So I began turning the calculations into simple online tools with visual representations and clear outputs.
The Roof Pitch Calculator became the starting point
I wanted it to work for more than engineers. A homeowner, roofer, builder, student or DIY user should be able to enter the measurements they know and understand what the result means without having to study the formula first.
Now I am building the wider collection
The roof pitch tool is only the beginning. My aim is to keep adding free roofing calculators and practical guides that make common construction measurements easier to calculate and easier to understand. You can read more about that on the Our Mission page.
Keep the calculation technical. Keep the experience simple.
I believe a useful engineering tool should not make the user feel like they need to be an engineer. The formula can stay accurate behind the scenes while the interface remains clear and practical.
If you want to learn more about my background and how the calculators are developed, visit the About Us page.
Simple Inputs
Ask only for the measurements needed to produce the calculation.
Visual Results
Help users see how rise, run, angle and other measurements relate.
Quick Outputs
Give the important answer clearly without making users search for it.
Free to Use
Make practical roofing calculations available without unnecessary barriers.
Have an idea, question or piece of feedback?
I want the website to improve as people actually use it. If you notice something that could be clearer, find an issue, or have an idea for a roofing calculator you would find useful, please get in touch.
