    Quick answer

    Gutter installation cost is usually estimated from the total linear feet of gutter, the material and gutter type, then adjusted for downspouts, old-gutter removal, gutter size, guards, fascia repairs and difficult access. Current 2026 U.S. cost guides put common aluminum gutter installation around the middle of the market, while vinyl is generally cheaper and copper is substantially more expensive. Use the calculator above for a project-specific planning range rather than multiplying one national average by your house size.

    How to Use the Gutter Cost Calculator

    This gutter cost calculator is designed for homeowners and contractors who want a quick planning estimate for a new gutter installation or gutter replacement. It works from the actual gutter run rather than the square footage of the house, because gutter installers commonly price work by linear foot.

    1. Enter the gutter length. Use a measured total if you know it, or estimate a simple gutter run from the building footprint.
    2. Choose new installation or replacement. Replacement can include an allowance for removing and disposing of the existing gutters.
    3. Select the gutter material. Choose vinyl, aluminum, seamless, galvanized steel, copper, zinc or enter your own local installed rate.
    4. Choose 5-inch or 6-inch gutters. The calculator can add an editable planning allowance for a 6-inch upgrade.
    5. Add downspouts. Enter the number of downspouts, average installed length and the appropriate cost per foot.
    6. Add optional work. Include gutter guards, fascia/soffit repairs, removal, accessories or an access/complexity adjustment where needed.

    The result gives a low-to-high project estimate, a midpoint budget, an approximate total project cost per gutter foot and a transparent breakdown of each allowance.

    Gutter Installation Cost Calculator Formula

    The basic estimate starts with gutter length:

    Base gutter installation
    Gutter cost = Total gutter length × Installed cost per linear foot

    Downspouts are calculated separately:

    Downspout length = Number of downspouts × Average length each
    Downspout cost = Total downspout length × Installed downspout rate

    Then the calculator adds the selected project items:

    Estimated project cost = Gutters + Size upgrade + Removal + Downspouts + Guards + Complexity + Entered allowances

    The calculator carries both a low and high rate through the formula so you see a range rather than a false single-price promise.

    How Much Does Gutter Installation Cost in 2026?

    Current national guides show a wide spread because material, roofline complexity and local labor vary. Angi's July 2026 national gutter-installation guide reports that professional projects commonly fall between roughly $629 and $1,736 overall, but that figure includes many different sizes and materials. For estimating your own house, cost per linear foot is more useful.

    The same 2026 guide gives broad material ranges from about $3 per linear foot at the low end to around $40 per linear foot for premium materials and configurations.

    National averages are not local quotes. A small straightforward one-story installation can price very differently from a tall house with dormers, multiple corners, difficult access, fascia damage and premium half-round copper gutters.

    Gutter Cost per Linear Foot in 2026

    Cost per linear foot is the easiest way to compare gutter systems, but make sure the quotes include the same scope. Some contractors include hangers, outlets, end caps and basic downspouts in a package price, while others list those separately.

    Gutter material / system 2026 planning range used by calculator General position
    Vinyl $5–$10 / linear ft Budget
    Aluminum $7–$13 / linear ft Common mid-range choice
    Seamless gutters $12–$30 / linear ft Varies strongly by material and system
    Galvanized steel $5–$12 / linear ft Mid-range, durable
    Copper $18–$40 / linear ft Premium
    Zinc $15–$30 / linear ft Premium / specialty

    Calculator presets are rounded planning ranges assembled from current 2026 U.S. cost guidance. Different sources and project scopes do not use identical definitions, so all rates are editable.

    Aluminum Gutter Cost Calculator

    Aluminum is one of the most common residential gutter materials because it is lightweight, corrosion-resistant in normal conditions and available in both sectional and seamless systems.

    Angi's current 2026 aluminum gutter guide reports a typical installed range of about $7 to $13 per linear foot, with an average whole-project cost around $2,400. It also notes that home size and whether the gutters are seamed or seamless can move the final price.

    For 150 linear feet, the calculator's $7–$13 preset gives:

    150 × $7 = $1,050
    150 × $13 = $1,950

    That is the gutter-run portion only. Downspouts and any selected add-ons are calculated separately.

    Vinyl Gutter Cost Calculator

    Vinyl is usually one of the lower-cost gutter options. Angi's 2026 vinyl guide reports that a typical 150-foot project often lands around $850 to $1,300, depending on style and installation conditions.

    Vinyl can be attractive for a lower initial budget, but material selection should not be based on price alone. Climate, expected service life, roof drainage requirements and the quality of the complete gutter/downspout system matter as well.

    Seamless Gutter Cost Calculator

    The keyword research shows particularly strong interest in seamless gutter cost calculators, so this calculator includes a separate seamless preset.

    Seamless gutters are formed in long continuous runs, reducing the number of field joints along the gutter. Current 2026 sources vary because some quote the finished installed system while others separate material and labor. Angi currently describes seamless installation around $12–$30 per linear foot in one of its guides, while Modernize reports a typical national range of approximately $8–$28 per linear foot installed.

    “Seamless” is a construction method, not one material. Seamless aluminum and seamless copper should not be expected to cost the same. If you know the exact material and have a local installed price, use the custom rate instead of relying on a broad seamless preset.

    Seamless Aluminum Gutter Cost

    Seamless aluminum is a common combination. Angi's dedicated 2026 aluminum guide places seamed aluminum around the lower part of its installed range and seamless aluminum toward roughly $9–$13 per linear foot for many projects.

    This can be a better comparison point than the broad seamless preset if you already know you are buying aluminum. Select Aluminum and replace the calculator's rate with the local seamless-aluminum quote if you have one.

    Copper Gutter Cost Calculator

    Copper sits at the premium end of residential gutter pricing. Angi's September 2026 copper guide reports approximately $18–$40 per linear foot installed, depending on gauge, profile and whether the system is sectional or seamless.

    For 150 linear feet:

    150 × $18 = $2,700
    150 × $40 = $6,000

    Copper downspouts, compatible fittings, guards and specialty fabrication can push the total higher, which is why the calculator keeps the downspout and accessory costs separate.

    Galvanized Steel and Zinc Gutter Costs

    Galvanized steel is generally less expensive than premium zinc but heavier than aluminum. Current national cost guides show broad ranges because gauge and finish can vary.

    Zinc is usually treated as a premium architectural material. Some current seamless-specific guides show zinc pricing well above general gutter averages. If you are pricing a real zinc project, use the supplier or installer quote rather than assuming a national preset will represent a specialty fabrication accurately.

    Gutter Replacement Cost Calculator

    Replacing gutters is not always the same price as installing a system on a clean new fascia. The old system may need to be removed, separated from hangers, lowered safely and disposed of before the new gutters can be fitted.

    Current 2026 guides often quote old-gutter removal as a project allowance rather than one universal rate. Angi's aluminum guide reports roughly $80–$300 when removal/disposal is priced separately, while its seamless-gutter guide gives approximately $150–$300 for existing gutter removal.

    Our calculator uses an editable per-foot allowance by default so removal scales with the entered gutter run:

    Removal cost = Existing gutter length × Removal rate per foot

    If your contractor provides a fixed removal figure instead, you can adjust the rate or use the other allowance field to reproduce the quoted scope.

    New Gutters vs Gutter Replacement

    New installation

    Usually focuses on measuring, forming/assembling and installing the gutter and downspout system. Fascia readiness and access still affect labor.

    Replacement

    Adds removal/disposal and can expose rotten fascia, damaged soffit, old flashing or other work that was hidden behind the existing gutter.

    A replacement estimate can therefore change after the old gutter is removed. The optional fascia/soffit allowance lets you include a known repair budget without pretending every house needs the same amount of repair work.

    How to Calculate Gutter Length

    If you already have measurements, enter the total length of every eave that will receive a gutter. This is the most reliable method for cost planning.

    For a very simple centred gable with gutters on the two long eaves:

    Gutter length ≈ Building length × 2

    For a simple rectangular full-perimeter layout:

    Gutter length ≈ 2 × (Building length + Building width)
    Do not use footprint mode for a complicated house. Porches, dormers, additions, bay roofs, intersecting rooflines and sections without gutters can make the real gutter length substantially different from the simple perimeter.

    Gutter Cost by Home Size

    House square footage alone is a weak gutter-pricing input because two homes with the same floor area can have very different rooflines. A long single-story ranch can need more gutter than a compact two-story house with the same living area.

    That is why the calculator asks for linear gutter length or simple footprint dimensions instead of asking only for house square footage.

    When websites list “gutter cost for a 1,500 sq ft house” or “2,000 sq ft house,” they are normally assuming an average roofline length. Measure the actual eaves whenever possible.

    5-Inch vs 6-Inch Gutter Cost

    Five-inch gutters are common on many residential properties, while six-inch gutters provide more capacity and may be selected for larger drainage areas or higher rainfall conditions.

    Angi's current seamless-gutter guide says upgrading from a standard 5-inch system to 6-inch can add roughly $3–$5 per linear foot. The calculator uses that as an editable size-upgrade allowance.

    6-inch upgrade allowance = Gutter length × $3–$5 / ft
    Do not choose gutter size from price alone. The hydraulic capacity should be checked against roof drainage area, rainfall intensity, outlet capacity and gutter profile. A dedicated Gutter Size & Downspout Calculator is the better tool for that decision.

    Downspout Cost Calculator

    Gutters collect roof runoff, but downspouts have to move that water safely away from the roofline. The calculator therefore treats downspouts as a separate part of the project.

    Current Angi data puts professional downspout installation around $6.50–$22.25 per linear foot overall, with material-specific ranges extending higher. Vinyl is generally lower priced, aluminum/galvanized steel sit in the middle and copper can be considerably more expensive.

    Enter:

    • the number of downspouts;
    • the average installed length of each; and
    • the appropriate installed rate for your material.
    Total downspout feet = Number of downspouts × Average length
    Cost does not determine how many downspouts you need. Final downspout quantity and size should be based on roof drainage area, rainfall intensity and the capacity of the selected gutter/outlet system.

    Gutter Guard Cost Calculator

    Gutter guards can be added as an optional percentage of the gutter run. Current Angi 2026 data places professionally installed guards around $6–$13 per linear foot for many systems, with an average whole-project cost around $1,500. Modernize shows a wider market range because inexpensive screens and premium micro-mesh/surface-tension systems can differ substantially.

    Guard footage = Gutter length × Coverage percentage
    Guard cost = Guard footage × Installed guard rate

    If only part of the property needs guards, change the coverage percentage instead of pricing the entire gutter system.

    How Home Height and Access Affect Gutter Cost

    Higher homes can cost more because installers may need taller ladders, lifts, scaffolding, additional safety measures or more time moving equipment around the property. Angi's current national gutter guide specifically identifies home height and roof design as cost factors.

    Rather than silently applying a fixed “two-story multiplier,” the calculator gives you an explicit complexity adjustment:

    • 0% for straightforward access;
    • 10% for moderate additional labor;
    • 20% for difficult access or a more complex roofline; and
    • 30% for very difficult conditions.

    This lets you see exactly how the adjustment changes the estimate.

    How Roof Shape Affects Gutter Installation Cost

    The gutter itself may be sold by linear foot, but labor does not always scale perfectly with length. A long straight run is usually simpler than the same total footage broken into many short sections with corners, valleys, dormers and elevation changes.

    Current cost guides identify complex roof designs and difficult access as reasons labor can rise. More corners can also mean more miters, outlets, end caps and setup time.

    Use the complexity adjustment when the roofline is clearly more labor-intensive than a simple one-story rectangle.

    Fascia and Soffit Repair Costs

    Gutters are attached at the roof edge, so deterioration behind an old system can become apparent during replacement. Rotten fascia can prevent a sound gutter installation until the damaged section is repaired.

    Because the amount of damage is impossible to know from gutter footage alone, the calculator does not invent a fascia repair rate. Instead, enter a fixed allowance if you already know repair work is likely or have a contractor estimate.

    Keep repair scope separate when comparing quotes. A $2,000 gutter quote with $800 of fascia work is not directly comparable with a $1,500 gutter-only quote.

    Gutter Repair Cost vs Replacement Cost

    A localized repair can make sense when most of the system is sound and the problem is limited to a joint, short damaged section, loose hanger or isolated downspout. Full replacement is more likely when gutters are extensively corroded, cracked, pulling away, poorly sized or repeatedly leaking at numerous locations.

    This page is primarily a gutter installation and replacement cost calculator. It does not try to estimate every repair from linear feet because repair labor can be driven more by the specific defect than by total gutter length.

    Worked Example: 150 Feet of Aluminum Gutters

    Consider a straightforward new installation using:

    • 150 linear feet of aluminum gutter;
    • 5-inch size;
    • four downspouts;
    • 10 ft average length per downspout;
    • $7–$13/ft aluminum gutter rate; and
    • $7–$30/ft editable downspout range.

    Base gutters:

    Low: 150 × $7 = $1,050
    High: 150 × $13 = $1,950

    Downspouts:

    4 × 10 ft = 40 ft downspout
    Low: 40 × $7 = $280
    High: 40 × $30 = $1,200

    Total planning range before other add-ons:

    $1,050 + $280 = $1,330
    $1,950 + $1,200 = $3,150
    Example result: approximately $1,330–$3,150 using those deliberately broad planning inputs. A real aluminum quote may use a much tighter downspout price and can therefore produce a narrower project range.

    Worked Example: 180-Foot Gutter Replacement

    A replacement project may include more than the new gutter run. For example:

    • 180 ft of aluminum gutters;
    • 6-inch upgrade;
    • old-gutter removal;
    • five downspouts at 10 ft each;
    • gutter guards on the full run;
    • 10% access/complexity allowance;
    • $350 known fascia allowance; and
    • $100 other accessories.

    This is exactly why a useful gutter replacement calculator needs more than one cost-per-foot field. The calculator above shows each component separately so you can see where the budget is going.

    How to Compare Gutter Estimates

    The lowest total is not always the cheapest equivalent proposal. Before comparing quotes, check whether each contractor includes the same items.

    Linear footage

    Confirm that every quote is based on roughly the same measured gutter run.

    Material and gauge

    “Aluminum gutter” can describe different thicknesses, finishes and product quality.

    Gutter size

    Check whether the price is for a 5-inch or 6-inch system and the same profile.

    Downspouts

    Compare number, size, material, length and whether extensions or underground drainage are included.

    Removal and disposal

    Confirm whether the old gutter system will be removed and hauled away.

    Repairs and accessories

    Separate fascia, soffit, flashing, guards, splash blocks and drainage extensions where possible.

    Does Gutter Cost Include Labor?

    The calculator's main material presets are intended as installed planning rates, so they are not material-only prices. Current guides commonly bundle material and labor when describing installed per-foot costs.

    Angi's 2026 aluminum guide estimates professional labor at roughly 20%–50% of the total project, or around $1.40–$6 per foot in the examples it discusses. Seamless gutter labor can also vary with building height and accessibility.

    If you are calculating a DIY materials-only project, replace the preset rates with your actual retail material costs rather than using the installed presets.

    DIY vs Professional Gutter Installation Cost

    DIY can reduce direct labor cost, particularly with sectional vinyl or aluminum products, but working at roof-edge height carries fall risk and measurement or slope errors can cause drainage problems.

    Seamless systems are normally formed on site using specialist equipment, so they are generally associated with professional installation. Premium materials such as copper also demand more fabrication skill.

    The calculator is neutral: replace the installed rate with your known material cost if you are estimating a DIY project.

    What This Gutter Cost Calculator Does Not Calculate

    Your keyword dataset contains several related gutter searches that deserve separate tools rather than being forced into this cost calculator.

    Gutter hydraulic size

    Rainfall intensity, roof drainage area, gutter profile and outlet capacity determine whether 5-inch or 6-inch gutters are large enough.

    SMACNA gutter sizing

    Commercial drainage sizing is a separate technical workflow and should not be inferred from installation price.

    Gutter coil yield

    Coil pounds-to-feet and feet-to-weight calculations depend on material thickness and coil dimensions and belong in a dedicated contractor tool.

    Gutter cleaning cost

    Cleaning is a recurring maintenance service with different pricing factors, such as stories, debris and access.

    Concrete curb and gutter

    This page is for roof rain gutters. Roadway or concrete curb-and-gutter quantity calculations are a completely different subject.

    Electrical gutter sizing

    Electrical wireway/gutter sizing is unrelated to roof drainage and is not part of this calculator.

    Common Gutter Cost Estimating Mistakes

    Using house square footage as gutter footage

    A 2,000 ft² home does not automatically need 2,000 ft of gutter. Measure the eaves that actually receive gutters.

    Comparing material-only prices with installed prices

    Check whether labor, hangers, outlets and fabrication are included before comparing per-foot rates.

    Forgetting downspouts

    A low gutter-only quote can look attractive until downspouts and drainage extensions are added later.

    Ignoring old-gutter removal

    Replacement can involve removal, disposal and cleanup before installation begins.

    Leaving fascia repairs out of the budget

    Existing damage can be hidden behind an old gutter. Keep a separate allowance if inspection suggests repairs may be required.

    Upgrading to 6-inch gutters only because they look better

    Larger gutters should be selected from drainage requirements, not only cost or appearance.

    Using one national price as a contractor quote

    Labor markets, project access, material availability and minimum charges differ significantly by location.

    Gutter Cost Calculator FAQs

    How much do gutters cost per foot in 2026?

    The answer depends on material and project type. Current U.S. guides place budget materials at the lower end of the single digits per foot, common installed aluminum around the mid single digits to low teens, and premium copper around the high teens to roughly $40 per foot.

    How much does it cost to install 150 feet of gutters?

    Using the calculator's $7–$13/ft aluminum preset, the gutter-run portion is about $1,050–$1,950 before downspouts, removal, guards, fascia repairs or other selected add-ons.

    How much do aluminum gutters cost?

    Angi's July 2026 aluminum guide reports roughly $7–$13 per linear foot installed for many projects, with total cost depending heavily on roofline length and whether the system is seamed or seamless.

    How much do seamless gutters cost?

    Current national guides vary. Angi describes seamless installation around $12–$30/ft in one 2026 guide, while Modernize reports about $8–$28/ft nationally. Material and labor scope explain much of the spread.

    How much do copper gutters cost?

    Angi's September 2026 copper guide reports roughly $18–$40 per linear foot installed, with gauge, profile and seamless fabrication affecting the price.

    How much does gutter replacement cost?

    Start with the new system cost, then add removal/disposal and any repairs revealed at the fascia or soffit. Current guides commonly put separate old-gutter removal in roughly the low hundreds of dollars for typical projects.

    How much extra do 6-inch gutters cost?

    Angi's current seamless-gutter guide says a 6-inch upgrade can add about $3–$5 per linear foot compared with standard 5-inch gutters. Actual pricing varies by material and contractor.

    How much do downspouts cost?

    Current Angi data puts professional downspout installation around $6.50–$22.25 per linear foot overall, with vinyl generally lower and copper considerably higher.

    How much do gutter guards cost?

    Angi's 2026 guide reports professional gutter guard installation around $6–$13 per linear foot for many systems. Premium guard products can cost more.

    Does this calculator include labor?

    Yes. The default gutter rates are installed planning rates rather than material-only retail prices. Replace them with your own figures if you want to model a DIY or supplier-only estimate.

    Does it include old gutter removal?

    Choose Replace Old Gutters and the calculator will add the editable removal rate to the gutter length.

    Does it calculate fascia repair?

    It lets you enter a known fixed fascia/soffit repair allowance. It cannot diagnose or price hidden rot from gutter measurements alone.

    Can I estimate gutters from my house dimensions?

    Yes, for a simple rectangular house. Gable mode estimates two long eaves; full-perimeter mode uses all four sides. Measure the actual roofline for complicated homes.

    Is this a gutter size calculator?

    No. It calculates installation cost. Gutter and downspout hydraulic sizing should consider roof drainage area, rainfall intensity and actual product capacity.

    Is this a gutter cleaning cost calculator?

    No. Gutter cleaning is a separate service with different inputs such as number of stories, debris level and access. This calculator is for installation and replacement.

    Technical and Cost References

    Cost guides do not all define project scope in the same way, so the calculator uses editable planning ranges instead of hiding one source as a universal price. The links below were used to check current 2026 U.S. pricing and cost factors.

    Before budgeting from this calculator: confirm the actual gutter footage, chosen material/profile/gauge, gutter size, required downspout capacity, removal scope, fascia condition and what the contractor's per-foot price includes. Use written local quotes for the final purchase decision.
